Round 15, 2012 at Mansfield Recreation Reserve
Rochester 13.13 (91) def. Mansfield 11.12 (78)
When Rochester travelled to take on the Eagles on their home turf, the Tigers knew it was always going to be a difficult game despite their superior ladder position.
But in the end, the Tigers’ quality shone through as they used a four-goals-to-two third term to give themselves breathing space heading into the final term.
Elliot Bowen was heavily influential on the contest as he booted five goals for the visitors while Sam Vale kicked three.
Vale was named the best player on the ground with Dillon Williams, Bowen, Nick Knight, Sam Brennan and James Brain also performing strongly.
Meanwhile in the reserves’ match, Rochester recorded its 15th consecutive win after it defeated the Eagles to the tune of 107 points.
Ruckman Clayton Zanella was named one of the best on the ground as Jake Weppner kicked five goals.
Colbinabbin v Lockington Bamawm United
2019 qualifying final at Gunbower Recreation Reserve
Colbinabbin 20.9 (129) def. LBU 15.10 (100)
At quarter-time of last year’s qualifying final, LBU looked set to book its place in the second semi-final against minor premier North Bendigo — kicking seven goals to three.
But Colbo was able to work its way back into the contest in the second term, stunning the Cats to lead by five points at half-time.
The third term was a much tighter affair as Colbo led by just two points at the final change.
And it couldn’t be stopped in the final term, kicking six goals to two.
Dan Connors was at his dominant best, booting seven majors.
Bad kicking is bad football and Leitchy-Gunny learnt that the hard way when it faced off against the Bloods last year.
Despite leading at every change, the visitors were made to pay for their inaccuracy as Elmore held them goalless in the final term, kicking three of its own.
“We knew we had a good game plan,” the Bombers’ coach Danny Teskera said.
“We started executing it really well. Our attack on the footy was really good, our entries inside 50 were fantastic.
“But in the opening quarter of the match we kicked 3.7 and it basically set the tone for how our day was going to go from that point onwards.”
