Campaspe Golf started their belated winter season last Monday on a lovely day, a nice field and the course was in excellent condition after the rain and the care of our volunteers who mow the course.
The winner of the stroke game was Ray Peake, the spell didn’t affect his game with a score of (49-14-35).
Runner-up was John Oakley, he scored (57-171/2-391/2)
Nearest-the-pin — 5th still had no claimant for the hole-in-one, and no one even made it near the pin.
Nearest-the-pin — 7th went to Frank Broucek.
Men’s straightest drive went to Dick Henderson
Ladies’ straightest drive was claimed by Denise Pappin.
There were three hot putters on 15 with Frank Broucek taking the countback.
Hopefully with the easing of restrictions, we can all continue to keep safe and keep on golfing.
Rochester
One wonders if the current crisis has changed the way countbacks are calculated at Wednesday’s hole events, as was the case last week.
Organiser Richard Feuk’s winning percentage over the last five years has seen him win at over 66 per cent, however, to the amazement of the good field present and even his three-ball Ambrose team of Russell Anderson and Alex MacQuibban were beaten on a countback by the team of Francis Lee, Shane Wolfe and Leigh Milgate, who was welcomed back after a five-year absence; both scored 37 net 31 5/6.
Other good scores were the teams of Garry Charnas, Peter Anderson and Kevin McCormack, new member Greg Watkins, Robert Vise and Ap Kuiper with net 32.
Marg Knight continued her good early form in last Friday’s 18-hole Ladies event, her 27 points were just enough to win from Julie Leahy on 26 stableford points.
Karen Taylor was Saturday’s winner with 31 from Leisa Evans (28).
Obviously the word was out, older members agreed that this was the best the course condition had looked since moving out to Blackculvert Rd in the early 80s.
The best competition crowd for many months, including a dozen green fee players, mainly young sportsmen played in last Saturday’s event.
Shane Wolfe fresh off his nine-hole win, won with a solid 36 points, captain Lee Hicks was next best on 33 on a countback from Graham Willis, visitor Will Valley and Chris White were other ball winners.
President Ian Clark, men’s captain Leigh Hicks, ladies captain Leisa Evans and members of the match committee will continue to enforce social distancing both in and out of the clubrooms and Victorian Government and health regulations during these strange times.
Lockington
The weather wasn’t as nice as the previous Saturday but it was still great to be out having a hit a Lockington on Saturday for a par event.

Stuart Newton played some excellent golf to finish with +4 to win both the Privilege Cup and A-grade honours.
Gary Milligan’s good form continued with another solid round of +1 to finish runner-up in A-grade.
