Now he will have the opportunity to test it on the national stage.
Thompson has been selected in the Victoria Country under 15 cricket side to compete at the national championships in Ballarat next month.
And he will be joined by a familiar face with former Rochester junior (now of Echuca) Kobyn James also selected in the team.
BLU president Eric Bish said Thompson had always shown signs of being a promising cricketer from the moment he joined the club.
“Cody always does an excellent job, whether he is playing in the juniors or seniors,” Bish said.
“It's a massive achievement for someone from our small club to make it to the next level.
“We're really excited by what the future holds for Cody, the potential he has is incredible.”
Thompson has been a regular feature for BLU's A grade throughout the season, while also consistently playing for the under 16s team.
His best performance of the season came at junior level when he scored a half century against Echuca Green.
He will now turn his attention to the JG Craig Shield in Melbourne where he will play for the Preston Cricket Club.
The national championships will run from February 20 to 27.
