Lockington
LAST Tuesday, the women enjoyed ideal conditons for their weekly social bowls.
On the day they played rinks, with Denise Gilmore, Annie Haines, Annette Brereton, Phyllis MacFarlane (s) winning the trophies.
In the club championships, the women have almost completed their second round, with some close results to date.
Ann Lowrie defeated reigning champion Kath Palmer, Phyllis MacFarlane def. Joy Weller, Annette Brereton def. Betty Mustey and Margaret Davis def. Lorraine Appleby and will play Denise Gilmore, with the winner to meet Lowrie.
The club championship for the men is down to the wire, with Ray Hanson defeating Phillip Cunington in a semi-final thriller with the very last bowl deciding the match.
With the score at 24-all, Cunnington was sitting on the cusp of victory, holding three shots when Hanson delivered his final bowl to draw an almost resting toucher and win the game 25-24 and book a spot in the final where he will be chasing his third championship title in a row.
In other games, Bill Musgrove defeated Don Isgro in comfortable fashion and will play Russell Shawcross in the other semi-final.
Shawcross eliminated Ken Main 25-22 after trailing early — Musgrove and Shawcross will play early this week.
The CVBD weekend pennant did not provide the club with much joy, as both division two and four suffered severe losses to their stronger Moama opponents.
Division two lost their match 40-103, with no rink wins.
J. Harris lt. N. Varcoe 10-25; G. Turner lt. R. Young 12-42; Russell Shawcross lt. G Thornley 18-36.
Division four battled gamely to be well in contention at the break.
However, the following period of play witnessed a couple of big numbers gained by the opposition to enable Moama to score a 72-54 victory.
Geoff Shawcross lt. S. Sutton 22-25; Bill Musgrove lt. R. Kelly 16-30; Steve Peter lt. A Jones 16-17.
On Sunday, a team travelled to Tongala for the Bendigo Bank Fours.
The rink comprising Ray Hanson, Andrew Harris, Tom Davis, Russell Shawcross (s) won all games to finish third in the star-studded field.

The Humphries trio lost their first knockout round game while the Brimblecombe team progressed to the final 16 before bowing out in a closely fought match against the eventual winners.

Weekend Pennant
This week Colbo hosted third-placed Violet Town in what could be a dress rehearsal for a finals showdown later in the year.
With the green rolling well Colbo went about getting the points but after a tight contest all day Violet Town proved too strong, getting home by four shots.
Ramon Rathjen (15) lost to Graham Jones (31), Dean Wallace (18) lost to Kenneth Byrne (19) and Shane Ryan (31) def. David Underwood (18).
Violet Town 2/68 def. Colbo 1/64.
The one noticeable thing about the match was the fitness level of our Thursday night coach Norm Morgan, who after actually bowling 50 bowls came off the green limping badly. Obviously not doing enough pre-season on the green.
Next Saturday, Colbo head to Stanhope to play the ladder leaders.
Mid-week Pennant
Midweek pennant ventured to Shepparton Park on November 12 and while hopeful of having a win, found the opposition too strong on the day.
Barb Cheatly (14) lost to Margaret Dobson (30) and Di Chandler (26) def. Margaret Keen (19).
This week sees midweek play host to Avenel.
Greg Chandler headed to Shepparton Golf Bowls to play the Victoria Open but unfortunately wasn’t up to the task, losing both qualifying matches but once again gained some valuable experience.
