NCN Health wants the government to back plans to rebuild the 46-year-old building, which was assessed as “end of life” by the Department of Health and Human Services in 2009.
It says the residential aged care home is no longer “fit for purpose”.
A Victorian Government spokesperson declined to directly say whether the project would be supported.
“We are committed to supporting public aged care, which plays a vital role as a major provider of residential aged care in many rural and regional communities,” the spokesperson said.
“Since December 2014, we have invested more than $4 million in capital improvements, specialist equipment, nurse training and other improvement initiatives in public residential aged care with NCN Health.
“This includes an investment of more than $1.1 million in public residential aged care services in Numurkah, including Numurkah Pioneers Memorial Lodge and Karinya Nursing Home.”
The spokesperson said the Andrews Government had invested more than $451 million in capital improvements to public sector aged care across the state since 2014, including more than $211 million in rural and regional Victoria.
With an election to be held in November, the Numurkah community will be hoping for a firm commitment during the campaign.
