The camp will be held at the school and provide invaluable opportunities for students with both teaching staff and special guest industry professionals.
Moama Anglican Grammar head of creative and performing arts Codie Ellis said the weekend camp was open to all Year 9 to 12 students from the region to join in.
“It’s a music, art and drama camp open from (year) 9 to 12 students in the local area — not just our school, any students can come,” she said.
“There’s not really a limit where they can come from, as long as they’re prepared to do the travel and stay overnight.
“We have special guests coming to run workshops in their subject areas and kids will be able to hear from those industry professionals and build on what they’ve been doing in classes.”
Special guests on the weekend will include Zech Walters of Melbourne band Wooldlock, Francie Finn from Echuca Moama Theatre Company and Murray Ross from Tongala Street Art, among others.
“There is a variety of art-making workshops, including print making, sketching and painting,” Ms Ellis said.
“The drama kids will be doing a 24-hour production workshop, where they will learn a play in 24 hours and perform it. The music kids will have a band workshop where they can work on some pieces and there will be a songwriting and production class where they can learn how to write and then how to record their own music.”
Students will also have the chance to celebrate their achievements and present their work in an afternoon showcase in the school hall at 3.30pm.
The inspiration for the camp came when Ms Ellis was trying to come up with some more workshop opportunities her Year 12 students, and then wanting to expand the opportunities to the Year 9-12 students.
“COVID-19 really squashed the arts over the last couple of years,” Ms Ellis said.
“Given our location as a school, we sometimes don’t have those rich experiences.
“There’s never been an event like this in the area, not even up in Deniliquin, and not on a regular basis.”
Students studying their senior school subjects will also have chances to have feedback on their exam material ahead of time.
“Students who are doing Year 12 — HSC or VCE — will have workshops specifically targeted at them for their upcoming exams as well,” Ms Ellis said.
“They’ll have guest feedback on the work they’ve been doing in classes to help prepare them.”
The creative and performing arts camp will be held at Moama Anglican Grammar on Saturday, June 18, and Sunday, June 19. Cost is $60, plus meals purchased at the camp.
