Victorian Transport Infrastructure Minister Jacinta Allan said the works were part of Stage 2 upgrades to the line, which is also seeing work at Murchison East and Mooroopna stations.
“It’s great to see upgrades nearing completion at these three stations — paving the way for the new bigger and more modern VLocity trains to run on the Shepparton line for the very first time later this year,” Ms Allan said.
“This will provide a huge benefit to passengers — making it easier for them to travel across our regional network with more reliable and comfortable services.”
The upgrades are scheduled for completion later this year.
They include platform extensions at all three stations.
Construction of a crossing loop extension at Murchison East has been completed, which will give the trains more room to pass each other in this section after commissioning works take place.
Asphalted car parking with accessible car parks will open to locals once works wrap up at the stations in coming months, as well as CCTV coverage of the platform and platform lighting, seating and shelters to improve safety.
Stage 2 of the Shepparton line upgrade also includes 59 level crossing upgrades between Donnybrook and Shepparton – with six crossing upgrades already finished.
Stage 3 of the Shepparton line upgrade – which will enable nine daily return services and trains to travel faster on the line – is targeted for completion in late 2023.
The Victorian Government has invested $436 million for the Shepparton line upgrade, with Stage 1 already complete, having delivered 10 extra weekly services along the line.
The Shepparton line upgrade is part of Regional Rail Revival, which is upgrading every passenger rail line in the state and creating more than 3000 jobs and local supplier opportunities.
