The Victorian Government has committed an extra $119,000 to deliver a five-day introduction shearing course for 100 new workers and another $56,000 to help 15 students finish their Certificate II in Shearing.
The announcement was made by Victorian Training Minister Gayle Tierney at Sheepvention in Hamilton.
The five-day introduction shearing course will be delivered by the Shearing Contractors Association of Australia.
This training is already under way in shearing sheds across Dookie, Nathalia, Balmoral, Hamilton and Wedderburn.
The Certificate II in Shearing will be taught by the Rural Industries Skill Training Centre in Hamilton.
It’s hoped these two opportunities will help more students enter the shearing industry at an entry level.
