The Criminal Investigations Unit are investigating the burglary, in which a number of buildings were entered and ransacked though little was actually stolen.
Unknown offenders gained access to the site by cutting through a back fence between 3pm on Sunday, May 8, and 7.30am Monday, May 9.
They allegedly tried to steal a council-owned ute with some of the stolen property inside, but were unsuccessful and left the vehicle damaged instead.
Buildings, doors and some infrastructure at the site were also damaged significantly during the break-in, leaving behind what police said was a “significant” amount of evidence.
The unknown offenders also attempted to disable the security system.
Police have described the burglary as “amateurish” and “opportunistic”, but are still reviewing the forensic evidence.
However, they are confident they will be able to make an arrest in connection with the crime.
The site was temporarily closed by the council on Monday but is now open.
Anyone with any information in connection with the crime is encouraged to contact Detective Constable Keith Barron at the Cobram police station on (03) 5871-1977.
