The 2.3metre all abilities carousel play unit with level entry design to cater for wheelchair entry, a seat for users who cannot/do not wish to stand to ride, and a non-slip rubber surface has now been in place for a couple of weeks and has had great feedback from all users.
Purtle Park Adventure Playground’s Helen Purtle said she and husband, Mulwala Progress Association All Abilities Park’s Robert ‘Possum’ Purtle were glad to have something within the playground that everybody would be able to use.
“We are so pleased that the carousel has finally been installed,” Mrs Purtle said.
“It is a great piece of equipment that ensures that everybody can enjoy the playground. It is another great addition.
“We would like to thank PALS, the Eva May foundation, Alexander Park Committee and the Mulwala Water Ski Club for their contributions and helping to get this wonderful piece of equipment as well as Federation Council and Enviroculture who were the contractors.
“We are very lucky the community is so giving.
“The equipment adds to the playground and park and ensures that no matter who visits, they are able to have an enjoyable time.
“Mums with toddlers who they do not want to take out of the pram or stroller can also use the carousel with their older children as the space within the carousel itself is wide enough for a wheelchair, walker or pram with a handrail.”
PALS CEO Julie Brooks said she, PALS staff and clients especially are delighted that everyone is able to use this valuable attraction to Mulwala and the Lake Mulwala foreshore.
“Our clients are thrilled with the installation of the All-abilities carousel. It is such a fantastic inclusion in the park and I know it will be utilized by many people who are physically challenged for whatever reason,” Ms Brooks said.
“I am so delighted with the support that this community of Yarrawonga/Mulwala contributed to the purchase and installation costs of the carousel.
“I extend on behalf of the Board and everyone at PALS my thanks to the Mulwala Water Ski Club in particular who donated the largest amount of money to this project.
“Also the Yarrawonga/Mulwala Golf Club and of course the Purtle family who without their involvement the park would not be there at all.
“Remember communities are judged by how they treat the most vulnerable in their community and I think all who have contributed to this project can hold their heads high.”
Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke added that the addition of the new all abilities carousel is sure to be another draw card feature to the amazing adventure play on offer at Purtle Park.
"This adventure playground is so much more than what we ever envisaged and is an asset that Federation Council is proud to have for the betterment of our council area," he said.
"The entire park continues to be driven by community initiative and passion and I look forward to visiting the site once the new carousel is in place.
“It is sure to provide many hours of enjoyment for our young residents and visitors to the Mulwala area for many years to come."
