Library services manager Jenny Mustey said daily activities guaranteed to entertain were available to children of all ages.
“Our summer holiday program planned across all five library services will provide children with opportunities to not only be entertained, but to learn, explore and be creative,” Ms Mustey said.
Activities inspired by current or past exhibitions at the National Gallery of Victoria feature throughout the program along with movie sessions, ‘crafternoons’, mug and plate decorating, as well as pendant and keyring making.
This summer will also see the inclusion of community-based program Our Community Adventure, where children are encouraged to complete a series of activities. This replaces the Summer Reading Club.
“The aim of the program is to encourage children to continue to read over summer. It also encourages children to get out and about, explore their local area in new and creative ways while keeping active and sharing thoughts and feelings with their families,” Ms Mustey said.
Children will be provided with a playing sheet and stickers, and once an activity is finished, they mark it off with stickers.
“There will be small incentive prizes along the way and at the end we will hold a celebration party for children who have completed the playing sheet,” Ms Mustey said.
Major prizes are from a range of local attractions including Billabong Ranch, Gravity Shack, Echuca Paramount Theatre, Stand Up Paddle, Kyabram Fauna Park and the Rochester Sports Museum.
Activities in Rochester include:
