More than $200,000 went into the project to allow extended opening hours throughout the year and make Rochester Netball Association one of only a few clubs in the region with court lighting.
“Netball Victoria has three anchors as part of their strategic plan,” RNA’s Meagan Keating said.
“We enable each other to shine, we have no limits, and we are leaders — and the Rochester netball community are the epitome of these anchors.
“Our netball champions of the future will play on great courts under state-of-the-art lighting.”
The rec reserve hosts more than 500 players from across Victoria for the Rochester Community Bank Invitational Tournament each year and will hold its Sunday Funday social tournament on Sunday, November 24.
The lighting was officially opened by member for Morthern Victoria Mark Gepp, who helped the project’s funding through a $100,000 grant from the Victorian Government's Country Football and Netball Program.
“The upgraded court lighting is a game-changer for the Rochester community and these upgraded facilities are exactly what the club rightly deserves,” Mr Gepp said.
“We want all Victorians to have access to high-quality facilities regardless of where they live or what gender they are.”
The project also received funding from Campaspe Shire and $17,000 from Rochester Netball Club, which would like to thank project manager Greg Dryburgh, Watters Electrical, Ky Mini Diggers and designers Heil Engineering Consultants and Martin Butcher Lighting Designers for installing the lights.
