PEOPLE from Rochester and surrounds will soon have an auction house to sell off bulk, antique and specialty items later this month.
Real estate agent Alastair Lias will open his doors to the public at 61 Mackay St on August 25 after he completes renovations at the old dance hall.
Large, difficult to move items and even estates can be catalogued and auctioned once or twice a month, depending on demand.
"I asked myself what I was going to do with the shop and I thought about my passions and what I'm good at," he said.
"And that's auctioneering. I've done quite a few clearances and bucket loads of charity auctions.
"I have this big space and there should be a good demand for it around the area for bulk and specialty items.
"If people want to get a lot of things sold quickly, they can bring it in and we will auction it."
Mr Lias' son will be busking on his guitar and banjo during intervals and the family business hopes to grow with and help the community of Rochester.
"As we grow we want to make an event out of the auctions by getting local people and community groups involved to set up stores," he said.
