YEAR 9 students at Moama Anglican Grammar had the chance to get ready for the working world recently thanks to the Echuca-Moama Beacon Foundation.

Students across the year level were able to work with businesses from the twin towns to learn how to apply for their first jobs, write a resume and cover letter before putting it all into practice in a mock interview.
Representatives from a number of businesses were invited to take part, including Campaspe Shire Council, Murray River Council, Dawes and Vary Riordan Lawyers, Insurance House, CLRS, Gunpork Joint Venture and Campaspe Cohuna LLEN.
"I think it's really important for the students to have experience before they go for a real interview for a real job," Beacon Foundation co-ordinator Cheryl Sweeney said.
It's also a chance for the students to learn valuable life skills such as time management.
"The students are allocated a time for their interviews and they're responsible for getting here, being on time and being prepared and ready," Moama Anglican Grammar careers adviser Stuart Martin said.
"For most of the students it's their first experience with an interview, so for them to have their first experience at school where they can get the support and encouragement they need is great."
After their interviews, the students were given some handy feedback to take away, but overall they received an A+ for effort.
"I've had some very polite students who have been very well-prepared for their interviews," Campaspe Shire community programs co-ordinator Jess Ibbeson said.
But there's always room for improvement.
"If I were to give some advice I would say practice makes perfect. If you can practice with your parents or get your friends to throw random questions at you or even get someone else to read your resume, that will definitely help," she said.
