So, any reminders about future events comes with the rider of “weather permitting”.
However, on Tuesday, September 13, even though some of our lady bowlers were out of town at tournaments, our midweek bowlers had a good practice match — in the sunshine.
Our next planned hit-out will be on Tuesday, September 27 when we will host Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort bowlers.
Cobram bowlers, check out the teams that will be posted on the board in the club house.
Also, if you were passing the club you may have noticed trucks coming and going and relatives of “Bill the Steam Shovel” (of Mr Squiggle era) working on the green closest to William St.
After 30 years, the drainage on that green (now known as Ena Gray Green) had stopped working efficiently and so the decision has been made to reconstruct it.
Bell Kearney Excavations were engaged to remove all soil so that state-of-the-art drainage can be installed.
What this does mean is that from time-to-time our car park will be part of a construction site, and at those times there will be no access for vehicles or pedestrians from William St.
Please look for signs at the entrance, or messages posted on our Facebook page.
On Saturday, September 17 more than 50 bowlers and supporters met at the club for a trivia night — an event that was originally planned “BC” (before COVID).
While scheduled for a 7.30pm start, it was delayed by a few minutes while the footy finals cliff-hanger finished in Sydney.
It was a fun night, with quizmaster Denise Stanbridge testing the knowledge of nine teams, and Tania Garland was tallymaster.
Who knew which was the first building in Cobram built under Commonwealth approval, or when the last passenger train left Cobram, or where the Cobram Bowling Club greens were when the club was established in 1914?
And then some of us were too old to recognise the song clips. Or how many words can you write down in five minutes that include “oo”?
There was a fine array lucky door prizes and at the end of the night it was Nicky Goldsworthy’s team which won by the smallest of margins.
