While I don't mind doing this, it would have been easier for them if there had been a local tourist information centre.
We need a tourist information centre in Cobram again, not just a visiting bus.
A petition is being prepared for submission to the Moira Shire Council asking that a dedicated tourist information centre be re-established in Cobram and that Chris Crawford and her team be returned to staff such a centre.
The lack of tourist information has been going on for some time.
Tourists have been stopping people on the streets and asking for information since the centre closed down.
I have seen tourists come to town, look for the tourist information centre, ask somone where it is located, then get back in their cars and travel up or down the highway to other towns, because they have little to no information about our little town of Cobram.
The Moira Shire Council offices in Cobram have a pamphlet stall in the foyer, which offers only limited information.
Chris and her team all had local knowledge which far surpassed just a mere pamphlet, which probably wasn't printed in Cobram anyway, and a pamphlet is a pathetic substitute for local knowledge.
Cobram is dying, just walk around town and see the empty shops, it is not just due to the COVID-19 lockdowns, but also due to lack of information that tourists can get about Cobram now that they are able to travel to our regions smaller towns again.
The life blood is leaking out of our town and a tourist information centre would help stop the haemorrhage before it is too late.
People would be aware of activities and products before they even visited our little community.
Other towns still have tourist information centres, why don't we?
Sorry, Moira Shire Council, a bus that visits our town occasionally is just not good enough to help visitors with Cobram information.
If Moira Shire Council is fair dinkum about tourism in Cobram why don't they reopen a tourist information centre in town?
