IF FOOTBALL was played on paper, you would have locked Lockington-Bamawm United in for an easy victory against White Hills.

After all, LBU went into the game sitting undefeated on top of the Heathcote District Football League ladder with some impressive scalps to its name.
But on Saturday, it was a completely different story as the Cats just snuck home by four points — 14.5 (89) to 13.7 (85).
The result certainly didn’t come without its rollercoaster moments as the home side kicked the final three goals of the game in the dying stages to steal victory from the jaws of defeat.
It was a momentum swing that LBU coach Kahl Oliver did not see coming.
“White Hills certainly brought a different mindset and it caught us off guard,” he said.
“We kept grinding away and our fortunes changed.
“I would be lying if I said that our chances weren’t very slim in the last term.
“The boys have a strong belief to get the job done and once again they proved that.’’
After six games, LBU is yet to lose and looms as a serious premiership contender.
Despite the strong start to the season, Oliver and his players won’t be getting ahead of themselves.
“We still know that we’ve got a long way to go,” he said.
“It’s great to achieve our goal of being undefeated at the interleague break but the other clubs are going to be coming after us.
“We’re one of the hunted teams in the competition and we need to be able to handle that pressure.
“That is our big challenge in the coming weeks.”
LBU will now enjoy a week off before travelling to take on Mount Pleasant.
“The boys deserve to have our training program scaled back a bit,” Oliver said.
