When the goals can come from anywhere, opposition teams are in for a tough assignment.
Lockington-Bamawm United have those weapons at their disposal in 2019 — just ask Heathcote.
After Lachlan Collins’ nine-goal haul in the first game of the season, Patrick Gardiner (eight) and Stanley Brentnall (seven) combined for 15 as the Cats cruised to a 136-point win in the Heathcote District Football League on Saturday.
‘‘All of our forwards are capable of hitting the scoreboard in a big way,’’ coach Kahl Oliver said.
‘‘We’ve made it a real emphasis that we want to spread the workload this year.
‘‘Opposition defenders are going to have their hands full with this group every week.’’
Quick ball movement through the middle of the ground allowed LBU’s forwards to feast on multiple opportunities.
In the end, it was just too much for the Heathcote defenders.
‘‘We have confidence that our forwards can beat their opponents one-on-one,’’ Oliver said.
‘‘If we are able to move the ball quickly it makes us much more difficult to defend.
‘‘There is always going to be room for improvement, but I’m pleased by what we’ve dished up so far.’’
The game was marred by a concussion to Heathcote’s Codie Price, who was stretchered off in the final quarter.
Price sustained the injury, after his arms were pinned in a tackle, with forward momentum driving him head first into the ground.
He was taken to hospital following the incident to undergo testing, where he was released around 8pm on Saturday night.
Heathcote coach Wayne Primmer said Price may be available for action following the Easter break when his side take on Colbinabbin.
Meanwhile, LBU will turn their attentions to a clash with the same opposition on Good Friday, as they look to avenge last season’s finals defeat.
‘We’re really looking forward to the challenge,’’ Oliver said.
‘‘It would be good to get four points against quality opposition so early in the season.’’
