Campaspe

Campaspe Golf held their winter opening day last Monday with a good roll up for the stroke event.

Winner for the men was Kevin McCormack (41-9-32), runner-up was Dick Henderson (52-171/2-341/2).

The ladies winner was Florrie Bickley (46-131/2-321/2), Naida Belot a few lengths behind (63-22-41) was the runner-up.

The putts winners were Florrie and Laurie Radley, both on 14. There was a countback between Laurie and Kevin, who also had NTPs on the seventh hole.

Rod McAsey did his usual thing on the ninth to claim the straightest drive for the men and Naida Belot had the straightest drive on the third. The lucky card went to Faye Latter.

Wednesday ladies saw Ruth O’Connor have a great day to win with (60-22-38) and an elated Toni Bales was very close behind with (61-22-39) to be runner-up.

Ruth also had the least putts with 15. Straightest drive on the third was by Naida Belot and Faye Latter held the winning raffle ticket.

Daylight savings has ended but we are still on 8.30am assembly for a 9am hit off.

Lockington

The 2019 season for the Lockington Golf Club began on Saturday with a four-person ambrose event, with visitors from Elmore and Bamawm boosting the numbers.

For a few golfers, it was their first hit for six months so it was a good opportunity to blow out the cobwebs and enjoy a fun round of golf.

It was the first day as captain for Will Hardess and he did the job in fine style, including organising a barbecue for golfers to enjoy on their way around the course. A big thank you to cooks Mandy and Toni, who did a marvellous job.

The winners were Owen McPhee (Bamawm) and three Humberts – Kevin, Grant and Blake – with an excellent score of 64-7.75-56.25.

Not only did they return the best scratch score, but the best nett as well, and it was good to see Blake hitting the ball long and well.

Runners-up were the last-minute combination of Tom Scurrah, Ron Dixon, JD Wright and Don Muhleisen with a terrific score of 72-12.75-59.25, just half a shot clear of Sherryn Pedersen (Elmore), Des Pentreath, Barry Graham and Jeff Carnie with a fine score of 71-11.25-59.75.

The highlight of 88-year old Don Muhleisen’s round was when he birdied the 17th all by himself, putting his tee shot on the scrape and then sinking a monster putt, he thinks it’s more than 20 years since he last did that.

Results:

NTPs: 7th – Marg Eade, 17th – Annette Brereton, 3rd – Blake Humbert, 16th – Tony Brooke: 2nd shot, 18th for the six-pack smack – Will Hardess.
