A Rochy local, Bluey the Australian cattle dog went down in the history books after living for an amazing 29 years and 5 months.
His owner Les Hall took him home in 1910 where he worked with cattle and sheep for almost 20 years before being put to sleep in November 1939.
Rochester Business Network (RBN) president Glenda Nichol said it was a great and welcome addition to the town.
‘‘We are so very excited,’’ she said.
‘‘Anything that is good for our town we are thrilled to be a part of.’’
The project is a reflection of the great community that Rochester is.
‘‘We are one very resilient community. The way this project has come about is fantastic for this town,’’ RBN member Kate Taylor said.
Echuca’s John Stevens is the artist taking on the mural.
‘‘John is well recognised in the art world and with his recent works at the Rochester Mural Festival. We are thrilled to gain someone of his calibre for the town,’’ Kate said.
Edna Staley, Les Hall’s daughter, was also very excited about the mural.
‘‘I am so proud this painting is going up, especially at the pool where I go past every day,’’ Edna said.
Work on the mural are expected to be finished later this week.
The mural is a continuation of Rochester’s great engagement in the art world with the recent mural festival in March and the silos that were painted last June.
