For more than 20 years, she has travelled across the country creating inventive public art and working with local communities to beautify towns and suburbs.
She heard about the Rochester Festival while at the Sheffield Festival in Tasmania, where she has been a finalist a number of times.
“I’m looking forward to coming to Rochester, I’ve lived in many places but it’s a part of the world I haven’t been to. It will be great to be able to meet locals as I’m creating my mural,” she said.
In a lovely twist, Ms Wregg has recruited the talent of local up-and-coming artist Georgina Roberts as her assistant.
“I’m really looking forward to working with Georgina and I think it’s really special I am able to work with someone from the area on this project,” she said.
The ability to interact with the public is what gets Frances most excited about her work.
“Often being an artist is solitary. With murals, people can come and talk to you – that’s the wonderful part,’’ she said.
“One of my favourite pieces was of an old train in Queensland. As I was painting, all the old train drivers would come down and argue over the smallest details, like which side of the train used to have the toolbox in it.’’
Frances will be at the ‘meet the artists’ dinner where all the artists will unveil the murals they will be painting.
