Supporting small towns is important in regional areas, so McPherson Media Group decided to banish our readers’ winter blues.

Over the span of two weeks, the News ran a daily competition giving away 10 days of mini-breaks, offering opportunities to explore local towns and destinations.
“We all struggle a bit during the cold months, and if we [MMG] can make 10 people happy and lift their spirits, it makes us feel good too,” competition co-ordinator Alysha Bathman said.
“This is my favourite competition because it allows us to showcase the towns we write about and bring joy to our readers during winter.”
Prize winner James Armstrong couldn’t agree more.
“The competition as a whole is excellent because if you’re lucky enough to win the prize, it gives you the opportunity to visit other towns around the area, which is supporting those towns,” he said.
Mr Armstrong won a two-night stay at Top of The Town Motel in Benalla and a $250 Visa gift card.
He said he was excited to use the voucher but that the weather seemed too dreary to enjoy the countryside.
“I’m going to wait till the weather gets a little bit warmer and go on a nice midweek trip,” he said.
“It will be nice to get out in the country, fresh air and have a look around. That’ll be really nice.”
Mooroopna’s Andrea Ford collected a two-night stay at the Mitchelton Hotel in Nagambie after winning the first competition.
She discovered the competition online and felt she might as well enter.
“I saw it and I thought ‘if you don’t enter it, you don’t win anything’,” Mrs Ford said.
“Mitchelton’s lovely and it’s very exciting to win, especially the first one.”
Shepparton’s Cate Baldi won a $1000 voucher to spend at Lyn McNaught Travel on McLennan St, Mooroopna.
