Navorina Nursing Home has won a $300 Deniliquin Central IGA grocery voucher in the Deniliquin Lions Club raffle.
Held to raise money for the Cord Blood Foundation, $1000 was raised between Central IGA and Lions for the cause.
Deniliquin Lions has supported the Cord Blood Foundation with a grocery related raffle for many years.
The foundation supplies the Fight Cancer Foundation with funding for the storage of cord blood units, which are collected from the umbilical cord of a newborn child.
These cords were previously discarded, but it was discovered that when processed, the stem cells from the cord blood assist children to battle leukaemia.
‘‘We are absolutely thrilled with how the community has supported this cause,’’ Lion Geoff Riley said.
‘‘The Cord Blood Foundation need as much help they can get. There is even a Deni man who owes his life to the foundation, so it just goes to show how they are able to help people.’’
IGA’s charity support continues next week, when its hosts Footy Colours Day on Wednesday.
The day supports the Fight Cancer Foundation, particularly to support children living with cancer.
Staff will wear their footy colours and will be accepting donations on the day.
