Rochester Fire Brigade has had several members on the ground in affected areas, doing their part for the cause.
And, on Wednesday last week, emergency services were recognised as part of the Australian Open's Rally for Relief, which raised almost $4.8 million.
Stars including Roger Federer, Nick Kyrgios, Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic, Naomi Osaka, Caroline Wozniacki, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev all took part and CFA duo Heidi and Luke Warren were there to witness it.
“You don't volunteer for the recognition, but it was quite humbling to be apart of,” Luke said.
“To see some of the world's best athletes up close and personal was an amazing experience.
“It's been great to see so many people raising money to help communities get back on their feet.
“We were just two people who were fortunate enough to go, I really wish everyone who had been on the front line could have been there.
“It was a tremendous honour. To receive standing ovations from the crowd gave me a chill.”
It was not just at Rod Laver Arena where the volunteers were recognised, also making an appearance on Channel 9's coverage in an interview with Tony Jones.
“I would be lying if I said we weren't nervous at the time because we didn't know what to expect,” Luke said.
“But it was wonderful in the end because Tony was great with the way he handled the situation.”
