Footy’s new generation

Rochester Football Club’s Dylan Cuttriss and Mark Macfarlane are raring to go this season with some of our local Auskickers.

IT’S time to put away the cricket bag for another year and dust off the footy boots.

Football season is upon us and some cosmetic changes to the implementation of Auskick in Rochester will continue to see the centre grow in participants and offer a diverse range of activities for all age groups.

A new adaptation for the coming season will see the re-invention of one of the earliest concepts of junior football in Rochester, The Rochy Minis.

This is a targeted opportunity for players under the age of 12 who are not moving into the under 12 group yet.

Continuing with the nostalgic look back at the rich history in Rochester football, this year will see either former junior or senior Tiger players among the accredited coaches who take charge of Auskick each week.

Among the coaches are Rochester premiership players, best and fairest winners, leading goal kickers and current senior coaching staff.

Rochester NAB AFL Auskick centre co-ordinator Casey James said the appointments would give the juniors a great year of coaching.

‘‘There’s an old saying that goes ‘if you want to be the best, you need to learn from the best’. Well, look no further than this year,’’ James said.

‘‘All of the coaches hold a minimum Level 1 Coaching accreditation and will be ably assisted throughout the year with regular visits from the Rochester senior players, and the opportunity to play and train at half time of some Rochester home games.’’

There will also be a change in an administrative capacity, which will see James take over the reins as centre co-ordinator.

James has had a long standing association in administrative roles within the community and is looking forward to using this opportunity as a way to continue to build a strong history of football in Rochester.

The club thanks outgoing co-ordinator Craig Williams, whose tireless efforts have seen the centre’s participation rates grow regularly each year.

Auskick and Minis both run from 10am on Sundays for an hour.

NAB AFL Auskick has also introduced some exciting changes this year, including junior club memberships to your preferred AFL club for all registered participants.

To register, head over to www.aflauskick.com.au and follow the links to register an Auskicker. The Rochy Auskick Team is excited and looking forward to seeing new players.
