WITH the season fast approaching, the Rochester Junior Football Club has finalised its coaching staff for the year, headed up by John Atley.
Atley will lead the under 16 team this season and will be ably assisted by Rochy Tigers senior team vice-captain Nick O’Connor.
The under 14 side will be coached by Bailey Wileman — an up and coming player in the senior squad. Wileman will be assisted by highly-respected former Melbourne Demons player — and Rochester and Kyabram senior team coach — David Williams.
The wealth of knowledge and experience of Williams will be a great support for Wileman in his first year of coaching.
For the under 12 side, it will once again be coached by Gary Milligan. With his background in VFL, Milligan also brings a vast amount of experience to the junior team.
The club committee extends its thanks to all those who have committed to coaching this year in an exciting time for the young players to learn and develop their football skills.
Atley and O’Connor’s under 16s have started training Tuesday and Thursday nights from 4.30pm, while the under 14s started last Wednesday night and will continue to train at 4.30pm each Wednesday.
Milligan’s under 12s will start training tomorrow from 4pm.
There will be a barbecue and sausage sizzle to follow training for all players, parents and family on the night.
As a club the Tigers are actively looking for any players who have played at the club to register for the 2018 season and would welcome new players in all age groups.
Club secretary Leisa Evans said male and female under 12 and 14 players are welcomed and encouraged to play for the club with the introduction of women’s AFL football being such a success.
‘‘We would love any girls wanting to play this year to sign up and join our club to nurture their initial football years,’’ she said.
‘‘Our under 16 side is currently seeking extra numbers too, so if any child is interested in playing with our club please email [email protected], call me on 0428 842 157 or just come along to training on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 4.30pm,’’ she said.
