THE man airlifted to Melbourne after a head-on collision near Rochester yesterday remains in a serious but stable condition.
The 20-year-old Runnymede man was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital after the collision that killed a 26-year-old Rochester man.
A statement from Victoria Police said a Toyota Landcruiser and a Holden Statesman sedan collided head-on on Heathcote Rochester Rd just after 6.45am.
Sergeant Paul Nicoll from Campaspe Highway Patrol said one vehicle was overtaking another and during the process collided with a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.
SES crews worked for about an hour to free a man trapped in a utility vehicle.
Police said investigations are ongoing and urged anyone who witnessed the collision to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
