A ROCHESTER man was left beaten and bloody in a Woolworths car park last month, in what police are calling an opportunistic attack.
The 20-year-old was at the rear car park of the Bradley St supermarket in Kyabram, when he was approached by a man on February 19, just before 5pm.
The 29-year-old Kyabram man is accused of repeatedly kicking and punching the victim, inflicting serious cuts and abrasions to the man’s head and torso.
Several passersby witnessed the attack and the man was taken to hospital due to his injuries.
Senior Constable Russell Locke of Kyabram police said the offender allegedly found the victim the day after in hospital, making further threats.
Police arrested the Kyabram man the following day, who was allegedly hiding in a house in Kyabram.
‘‘We know that the two men were known to each other and we don’t believe, at this time, that drugs or alcohol were involved, it was just an opportunistic assault,’’ Snr Constable Locke said.
‘‘The victim is OK now, he has been released from hospital, but it was a pretty violent assault.’’
The Kyabram man has been charged with assault-related offences and was released on bail.
He will appear in Echuca Magistrates’ Court on April 11.
Anyone who witnessed this incident is urged to phone Kyabram police on 58531777.
