GOULBURN Murray Cricket’s under 14 team won the Northern Rivers Shield with a 57-run win over Murray Valley on Sunday at Cooma.
Rochester players Waugh George, Austin Reinehr and Kobyn James all played a significant part in the grand final victory.
Winning the toss and opting to bat, Goulburn Murray was well led by opening batsmen Reinehr who made 27 before being run out.
Number three batsman James chipped in 40 before he retired while George was unbeaten on seven when the innings closed with Goulburn Murray on 5/162 at the end of its 40 overs.
In reply, Murray Valley lost wickets at regular intervals to be all out for 105.
George took 1/17 and was involved in two run outs in a stellar perfomance in the field.
Goulburn Murray also won the under 16 shield on Sunday in a thriller against Murray Valley at Moama.
Goulburn Murray compiled a competitive 9/170 with Angus Martin (47) leading the way with the bat.
A solid middle order batting performance from Murray Valley had the team in the contest but it ultimately fell agonisingly short when the innings came to a close on 7/168.
Martin took 2/22, Matthew Hindson 2/20 and Ethan Palmer-Luderman 2/35 as Goulburn Murray bowlers helped defend the team’s total and secure the shield.
