Jack Attack has arrived in Rochy. This popular form of the game designed to encourage new bowlers to the game, starts Wednesday evening at 6.15pm with a sausage sizzle and play beginning at 7pm, so there is still time to enter a team.

Get a couple or more friends (teams of three to five members) from work or whatever and you can co-opt an experienced bowler from the club if needed. Jack Attack comprises two sets of five ends with a relaxed atmosphere.

Cost is $30 a team. Contact Bob Knight 5484 3444 or any member of the club.

Jack Attack will be running for four weeks.

Rochester Campaspe Classic 4s is on Sunday, February 18, starting at 9.30am

The women played their social bowls on Tuesday in pleasant conditons.

After the two games of Pairs, the declared winners were Joy Weller and Kath Palmer (s) following a coupe of close matches — winning 7-6 and 6-5. (A bit like tennis).

On the local pennant scene the CVBD Midweek pennant round dealt a severe blow for our division two. Playing Moama under cover, the team lost 60-88 with only one rink win. (Annette Brereton, Betty Mustey, Annie Haines, Kath Palmer (s) lost to C Ritchie 20-21; Joy Weller, Russell Shawcross, Lois Chugg, Phylis MacFarlane (s) d. K Gillingham 29-27; Ann Lowrie, Lorraine Appleby, Margaret Davis, Pauline Humbert (s) lt L Rogan 11-40). Further to the loss was the news that Rich River had defeated Elmore by five shots and claimed fourth place on the premiership ladder. With ony one round remaining the team is three points behind in fifth place and will require a minor miracle to play the finals.

The CVBD Weekend pennant was cancelled on Saturday due to the heat policy.

Several bowlers were a little non-plussed on hearing news of the cancellation early Saturday morning as they sheltered from the rain.

However, decisions have to be made to prevent bowlers from travelling distances for pennant before having the games called off during play.

Better luck next week as our division two teams have to make up lost ground to make the final four. Twenty points short of fourth place.

Division four play Moama at home before facing Mathoura (away) in the final round. They are currently holding down third place and need to win at least one game.

During the week our members have travelled to tournaments at Mathoura, Gunbower and Shepparton Park. Warm to moderate temperatures, but no luck.

Congratulations to the Moama team comprising Sandra Connally, Merrilyn Rehe, Marrilyn Stephenson and Melissa Roberts (s) on winning the Bendigo/Campaspe Region Fours on Sunday.

Played at Rich River the team proved too strong for the Bendigo rink of V Flett, B Davies, G Waegli and S Howes (s) winning 21-16.

The team will now represent the region in the BowlsVic State Championships to be held at Bendigo East Bowling Club in April. Unfortunately the women’s Triples team of Lorrelle Smith, Margot Brennan and Beryl Eddy (s) lost to V Flett, G Waegli, S Howes (s) from Bendigo.

The Campaspe representative team in the Fours from City of Echuca including Wayne Brooks, Steve Cunnington, Phillip Thorn and Geoff Beattie (s) lost a thrilling contest to the Bendigo rink of B Wiffin, B Morley, T Babitsch and Ian Ross (s) 18-16.

A rather controversial finish as the final end played out. Bendigo were leading 17-16 with Campaspe holding three shots and match, when Ross drove the head and spreadeagled the bowls and jack with the jack striking a player and finished in the ditch alongside a Bendigo bowl.

Umpires were called and the final decision favored the Bendigo team.

In the battle for the Triples honors the Campaspe team consisted of Phillip Thorn, Mick Humphries and Troy Mansbridge (s).

Playing against the Carter family — John, Ben and Dean representing the Bendigo Division — the local Campaspe trio were trailing by as much as eight shots midway through the match. However the team was able to bridge the gap to level the scores at 19 all with one end to play.

Bendigo were holding shot with little seperating two close bowls. Mansbridge drove at the head with his final bowl to displace the shot bowl, but missed the mark and Bendigo won 20-19.

The club will hold the popular Twilight Mixed Fours on Tuesday, February 20 at 5pm.

On Saturday, March 17 the club will attempt to play the Cunnington Cup Mixed 2x4x2 Pairs starting at 1pm. Contact Kath Palmer 5486 2314 or Chris Stewart 5486 2607 for details.

The ‘‘Toyota’’ Open Fours will be played on Sunday, March 25 starting at 9.30am. Details from Chris Stewart 5486 2607
