Lions on prowl for problem trees

February 14, 2018

THE Rochester Lions Club is seeking your help.

Last year, with the help of Ross Abberfield from Goulburn Murray Valley Regional Fruit Fly, they held information sessions with students at Rochester Primary School and St Joseph’s Primary School as well as a public meeting.

The aim of the sessions was to raise awareness about fruit fly in the area.

The Lions club is undertaking the task of identifying problem trees on Rochester’s nature strips where the insect may breed.

One of the common plants is the Prunus Plumes, which is a haven for fruit fly.

It is believed a list will be made up and forwarded to council with a request to have the trees removed.

Residents are asked to assist the Lions in identifying these trees and if you are aware of some near your residence please contact Hedley Moon on 0428445436 or any Lions member.
