MOTORISTS are being reminded to slow down around schools, with term one starting this week.
Highway patrol officers and general duties patrol units will be enforcing school speed zones across the Rochester area.
Sergeant Paul Nicoll of Campaspe Highway Patrol said motorists needed to slow down to 40km/h in designated school zones between 8am and 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm.
‘‘There will be many young prep children who are not familiar with traffic and roads etc. Just be patient and be cautious around school zones in particular,’’ he said.
‘‘Allow plenty of time to get where you are going.’’
Sgt Nicoll said motorists were generally good around school zones. ‘‘The school zone limits have been in for a number of years now, so most motorists have got into the habit of obeying the reduced speed limit,’’ he said.
Sgt Nicoll said police would also be focusing on illegal and double parking at schools.
