AN 80-year-old Heathcote man was killed instantly in a two-car collision at a notorious intersection at Colbinabbin on Saturday morning.

Heathcote police acting Sergeant Karl Kerschbaumer said the accident happened about 11.35am when the Ford Fairlane the man was driving north along the Rochester-Heathcote road collided with a Holden Commodore station wagon, travelling east along the Bendigo-Murchison road.

Two Portland women, a mother and daughter, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The 42-year-old who was driving was admitted to Bendigo hospital and, on Monday, was in a stable condition.

ROCHESTER police were kept busy with a number of incidents over the Christmas and New Year period.

During the holiday period more than 50 drivers were booked in or near Rochester for speeding offences.

About a third of these will face court after being checked at speeds more than 30km/h over the speed limit.

A number of youths were charged during the period with underage drinking and they will face court at a later date.

One of the first incidents police attended was a small grass fire on a vacant block in Queen St, Rochester.

The fire, on Boxing Day, was quickly contained by the Rochester Fire Brigade.

Germany informed the Ambassador Petrograd that she agreed, but would like Denmark to join.

The Crown Pince of Sweden was not informed that such an agreement between Germany and Russia already existed.
