IT IS always an honour to play representative cricket and three Rochester junior cricketers are about to find out exactly how it feels.
Rochester Tigers have previously had three players selected to the Northern Rivers representative side.
The rep team comprises of players from Shepparton, Bendigo and Echuca, giving selectors a large group of young talents to select from.
This year, Tigers trio Waugh George, Austin Reinehr and Kobyn James have all been selected in the under 14 side.
It’s a major boost to the club, who pride themselves on their junior development.
Club president Ray George said it was an outstanding opportunity to for the player selected.
‘‘We look at it like this, all the current Australian players were playing senior cricket at a young age so it works,’’ George said.
The players were selected to the side after a series of trial sessions and a practice match, with the overall group of fifty narrowed down to the final 13 players.
But according to George, the enjoyment factor of the game is still paramount.
‘‘Having fun is key to playing well and enjoying the game,’’ George said.
‘‘Justin Cleary, our junior administrator, along with all the junior coaches are all committed to getting the best our of the players and keeping smiles on their faces.
‘‘But it is also good to see our efforts are paying off with these sort of results.’’
