Weekend pennant lose on the road

Weekend pennant saw division one lose 68-74 away to Mathoura.

Robert Clayton, Bob Knight, Don Gillies and Richard Feuk lost to Troy Mansbridge 19-36.

Bruce Major, Kevin McGreevy, John Weeks and David Keenan defeated Mick Humphries 22-19.

John Boyd, Cameron Keenan, Les Walles and Peter Holzerdefeated Ash Vesty 27-19.

Division two won at home to Mathoura 76-71.

Ron Gledhill, Alan Crilly, Gerard Browne and Darryl Hooper lost to Arthur Murphy 25-26.

Peter Stack, Leigh Milgate, Ross Turner and Brian Jones defeated Merv Lewis 29-19.

Kevin Dobson, Kevin Burrow, Graham Willis and Tim Quinlan lost to Mick McDonald 22-26.

Division three was at home to Elmore and lost 51-80.

Geoff McCarty, Gavin Houlihan, David Marshall and Hedley Moon lost to Charlie Williams 14-30.

Kevin McCormack, Clive Usher, Greg Watkins and Anton Gusak defeated Gary Williams 22-21.

John Hirst, Graeme Whitehead, Graeme Chambers and Helen Holzer lost to Kevin Brooks 15-29.

Division four was away to Mathoura and lost 59-86.

Don Thompson, Geoff Briggs, Graham Prince and Norm Christie lost to Ash Prime 22-29.

Bill Ault, Bruce Kneebone, Rod Franklin and Noel Sexton lost to Lindsay Whelan 19-31.

Kevin Hall, Brock Keenan, Phil Hampson and Ron Stranger lost to Doug Berryman 18-26.

Midweek pennant division one lost at home to Moama 53-109.

Beryl Elliot, Val Gledhill, Serena Sholl and Heather Curnick lost to Marilyn Stephenson 13-46.

Janet Rankin, Rae Ault, Muriel Stack and Lyn Moon lost to Beryl Eddy 19-43.

Di Milgate, Ev Nichol, Jane McCallum and Marg Knight defeated Melissa Roberts 21-20.

Division two was at home to Moama and won 78-62.

Phyllis Thompson, Shirley Williams, Trish Costello and Marg Harley defeated Dawn Armstrong 16-38.

Yvonne Smolenaars, Jeanette Kneebone, Aileen Fiedler and Janis Tamburini lost to Kristy Gillingham 18-24.

Heather Wilson, Carol Cakebread, Elaine Hall and Jenny Major drew with Lyn Rogan 22-22.

Marg Knight and Margot Brennan, Lyn Moon and Denise Pappin are all through to the second day of the ’Ladies State Pairs’ played Monday, November 13.

The Ladies Committee Meeting will be Tuesday, November 14 at 1 pm.

Round one of Men’s B grade championship must be completed by Sunday, November 19.

Rochester Men’s Fours tournament (Star) will be played on Thursday, November 16, starting at 9.30am.

There is still time to get your name in but be quick. As a consequence night pennant will be cancelled but resume again next Thursday, November 23.

Last week in Thursday Night pennant there were 16 players.

Joint winners were the pairs of Ian Jones and Graham Prince and John Hender and Kevin Hall.


Last Tuesday the women retired to the club house and champers to celebrate the Melbourne Cup day at leisure. No winners but a lot of fun.

In midweek pennant competition the women lost to Elmore 54-81. (Annette Brereton, Betty Mustey, Annie Haines, Kath Palmer (s) lost to Ann Williams 20-30; Lesla Maslen, Russell Shawcross, Lois Chugg, Phylis MacFarlane (s) l.t. Barbara Holmberg 15-23; Ann Lowrie, Lorraine Appleby, Margaret Davis, Pauline Humbert (s) l.t. Evelyn Locke 19-28). The team has dropped out of the top four to fifth position.

The results of the CVBD weekend pennant competition showed a loss and a win for the club.

Division two was confronted by the strong Moama unit and failed to win a rink in the 82-44 shock loss. (Ken Main, David Lupton, Don Isgro, Russell Shawcross (s) l.t. R Young 13-27; Frank Chugg, Geoff Shawcross, Ray Hanson, Graham Turner (s) l.t. B Trengrove 17-23; Roly Head, Tom Davis, Alan Kauffman, Jim Harris (s) l.t. L Saunderson 14-32). The team is relegated to sixth position on the ladder.

On the back green division four battled against the undefeated top side Rich River.

After a dour struggle for most of the day it came down to the last rink.

The Phil Collins rink withstood some real pressure from the strong Barry Kelly four to gradually win the game 28-20 and carry the club to victory. On the second last end Collins drew the "bowl-of-the-day" to win the end after being five shots down at the head, then trailed the jack for two shots on the final end.

The overall result was Lockington 72, Rich River 68. (Don Smith, Graeme Hyden, Les Brereton, Phil Collins (s) defeated B Kelly 28-20; Kalvan Stout, Phillip Cunnington, Stephen Peter, Bill Musgrove (s) l.t. M Kerr 21-24; Ken Cunnington, Chris Stewart, Russell Holman, Neil Haines (s) l.t. J Exton 23-24). This was the Haines’ rink’s second one-shot loss in as many weeks.

The club had a small roll up for the Friday night practice and meal of pizza’s and hot chips. In the lucky members draw no. 52 - Bill Musgrove was not in attendance.

With the Victorian Open Bowls Championship commencing in the Shepparton region this coming Saturday, November 18, all weekend pennant is cancelled and will resume on Saturday, November 25.

For people interested, there will be several CVBD bowlers in action during the championships.

In the State Singles championship sectional play on Saturday, Phillip Thorn is at Kyabram, Steve Cunnington at Wunghu, Troy Mansbridge at Stanhope, Rob Wastell at Shepparton Park, Trevor Nagorcka at Dookie, Rod Werner plus several local stars at different locations.

The women will be represented by Sandra Connolly, Marilyn Stephenson, Melissa Roberts, Kerryn Evans, Joan Moss, Leica Roney, Kath Wastell and Mia Young.

The State Singles is played on the Saturday followed by the State Pairs on Sunday and the State Triples on Monday.

The State Mixed Pairs will be played on Tuesday. Full draws for all events can be seen on the BowlsVic website. Good luck to all bowlers competing.
