United pair pile on runs for solid win

The opener made a composed 59 and by the time he fell had helped the side to 4/144, Blake Campbell (10), Adam Nunn (16) and Jamie Garde (4) all missing a chance to get among the runs.

The Tigers needed some composure at the top of the order but regularly lost wickets to slump to 4/58, Ryley Cowley two of the scalps.

But the experienced heads stepped up, Adam Ward (49) and captain Jake Wright (65) steering the side right back into the game.

But after both fell the tail couldn’t wag enough to grab the points, the Tigers falling 13 runs short, dismissed with eight balls left.

Every Tongala bowler took a wicket in a balanced performance with the ball, the win a second in as many weeks to kick start the season.

■ IN the round’s other fixtures, Moama fell to Kyabram via the Duckworth-Lewis method.

Having made 182 with the bat, Moama couldn’t break the crucial KFB partnership of Jayden Rosin (37) and Daniel Kent (55*) quickly enough in a rain-interrupted innings.

Kyabram finished at 4/114 from 23 overs, enough to grab the win.

Cooma defeated Stanhope by one run in a thrilling contest, while Echuca and Bamawm-Lockington United’s match was abandoned due to rain.
