Murray Goulburn will axe 60 tanker jobs at four of their sites, including Rochester.
To a letter to suppliers today the cooperative due to the reduction in their milk intake, they said they need to reshape our Inbound Logistics (IBL) business to support their milk collection needs.
"Over the last 18 months, as our milk intake has decreased, we have managed logistics through a reduction in our seasonal workforce, use of annual leave and accumulated hours," the letter said.
"However, the sustained reduction now requires more decisive action.
"Today we advised our IBL teams that there will be a reduction in approximately 60 tanker operator roles in Koroit, Leongatha, Maffra and Rochester and a number of support roles.
"To minimise the impact on our people, we will be seeking to make changes to rosters and offering voluntary redundancies in the first instance.
