THE River Gums District Groups came together in Elmore on Sunday, July 30 to celebrate World Scout Day.

Scouts, Cubs and Joeys from Elmore, Rochester, Echuca and Kyabram, in addition to the Venturer’s Group, converged on the Elmore Recreation Reserve to celebrate the cultures and cuisines of fellow Scouting countries.

‘‘Flavours, flags, costumes and refreshments from Spain, Germany, Malta, the Cook Islands and Jamaica were created and cooked by the groups, along with presentations about their chosen country,’’ 1st Rochester Cubs and Scouts Group’s Jane Reid said.

‘‘Some history of its association with the Scouting movement was also presented.

‘‘Each stall was judged on select criteria, including the presentation of the stall, the way in which the group’s participants worked together to prepare and serve their cuisine, their verbal presentation, and of course the taste of the food.’’

The 1st Rochester Cubs and Scouts Groups represented Germany, preparing and cooking krautburgers and truffles and decorating their stall with German colours, hats and a lederhosen photo booth.

‘‘The kids all worked well as a team to prepare, cook and serve their fare from scratch, and it tasted wonderful,’’ Ms Reid said.

‘‘Their success won them the award and a well-deserved name on a plaque for the perpetual trophy.

‘‘Congratulations to all of the Joeys, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers involved, and of course to all of the pack leaders, supporters, siblings and parents for helping to devour the tasty offerings.’’

The next big event on the district calendar is a go kart competition followed by Cuboree.

Over 3,700 Cubs aged from 6-10 years will converge on Gilwell Park for Cuboree.
