NOW is the time to spend money in our town, according to Rochester Business Network president Glenda Nichol.
With 400 extra RBN ‘‘stay local, shop Rochy’’ gift cards ordered recently Mrs Nichol said it is a great way to ensure money is spent in Rochester.
‘‘I hope people just realise that the gift cards are a great way for us to spend money at local businesses,’’ she said.
‘‘They are going really well and businesses can pick them up from the Bendigo Bank.’’
The RBN shop local initiative rolled out in November and has been a hit with member businesses.
That’s almost every shop in the main street — including cafes, the IGA and clothing and sporting stores.
‘‘We need to retain money in our town,’’ Mrs Nichol said.
‘‘I do worry that Rochy has lost a few shops now with the dairy industry problems there has been an economic downturn, no doubt about it.
‘‘But it’s really important to help keep the dollars here.’’
