People affected by cancer living in Kyabram and surrounding areas will have access to a free eight-week survivorship education, exercise and wellness program to assist them in the survivorship phase.
Cancer Council Victoria’s Cancer Wellness and Exercise program had its first course since 2021 commence on Tuesday, February 7.
The program provides people who have completed their cancer treatment with one hour group fitness sessions delivered by experienced exercise physiologist, Nathan McCarty.
This is followed by a short education session each week with Cancer Resource Nurse Lisa Priday and dietician Amy Burrowes.
The aim of the program is to provide support for local patients, to get back into exercise and to assist with dealing with the changes in their lives at home and at work.
Kyabram District Health Service said it was planning to run at least two courses in 2023.
A previous participant said: "It was a great benefit to both my physical and mental well-being. It increased my fitness and positive outlook.”
