HOODED burglars have once again targeted the BP service station in Elmore, stealing $400 worth of cigarette lighters and damaging an ATM.

Bendigo police sergeant Steve Cunningham said three males smashed their way through the front glass door with a sledgehammer at 4.30am on Wednesday.

‘‘They tried to steal the ATM with no luck,’’ he said.

‘‘They then fled in a white single cab ute.’’

The service station was closed at the time.

This is the second time it has been targeted since July when a man held up the service station with a knife.

The man entered the service station shortly after the store had opened, demanding cash from the two staff members present before fleeing.
